Difficult to know what was going through the writers heads on the last two episodes of Spooky in Love.
We had lots of corporate stuff, politics, politics and more politics. Bit of romance and strangely not a single ghost.
The series is based on a film, Spellbound
Plot of the film: A quirky street magician named Ma Jo-goo (Lee Min-ki) notices a gloomy woman, Kang Yeo-ri (Son Ye-jin), in his audience and hires her for his spooky magic show. He soon learns she isolates herself because she can see ghosts, and the spirits follow her and torment anyone close to her. Despite the terror, they fall in love.
So they made a lot of changes in the series and moved it to a corporate setting. Its funny or even interesting at the moment. The nice second lead has gone off the deep end and is fast becoming the main villain. And yet is still more appealing than the wishy washy lead.
The heroine doesn’t even seem surprised that she ahsnt seen any ghosts for a while or at least if she does, she ignores them and doesnt let the audience in on it.
The descent from most watchable series of the moment to ‘what is going on here’ was even quicker than ‘A perfect crown’.
Lets hope it gets back on course in the next episode.

Spooky in Love (also known as Chilling Romance) is a South Korean horror romantic-comedy television series that premiered on July 18, 2026, on tvN and is available globally for streaming on Netflix. Based on the 2011 hit supernatural film Spellbound, the 12-episode series releases new episodes every Saturday and Sunday.
The story follows an unlikely, chaotic partnership that blossoms into a slow-burn romance:
- Cheon Yeo-ri (played by Park Eun-bin): A glamorous chaebol heiress and luxury hotel CEO who hides an eerie secret—she can see ghosts. Because her physical touch temporarily passes this terrifying vision to anyone she makes contact with, she isolates herself from the world.
- Ma Gang-wook (played by Yang Se-jong): A hot-blooded, principled ace prosecutor who works tirelessly to crack unsolved murder cases but happens to be absolutely terrified of ghosts.
When the duo realizes that their combined skills make them highly effective at solving cold cases and putting restless spirits to rest, they begin working together. However, they must also face Kang Min-hwan (played by Ong Seong-wu), an ambitious threat with hidden motives who complicates their dynamic.
Series Details
- Director: Lee Min-soo (Resident Playbook)
- Screenwriter: Choi Jung-mi
- Webtoon Adaptation: Due to its popularity, an official weekly webtoon adaptation launched on Naver Webtoon concurrently with the show’s premiere.
Park Eun-bin shines as a lonely heiress who can’t touch anyone with her hands for fear of passing the ability to see ghosts on to them. The character of Ma Gang-wook , played by Yang Se-jong feels unbalanced though this seems little to do with the actor’s skills and more to do with the writers forcing the couple together quicker than feels natural.
By the end of Episode 3 the story leads us where we want to be, with the prosecutor now being able to see ghosts and the series is set to take off in episode 4.
Worth Watching – Not the last 2 episodes.
